林菲尔德大学校长迈尔斯·戴维斯在西亚斯2023级新生开学典礼暨迎新烛光晚会上的致辞

 

首先，感谢邀请林菲尔德大学参加今天的开学典礼。感谢郑州西亚斯学院的盛情款待。我们非常自豪的是，陈肖纯理事长是我们1989届的校友。

 

First of all, I want to thank Dr. Shawn Chen for inviting us here today to be a part of this opening ceremony. And to Sias University for being such gracious hosts to our delegation. We are extremely proud of the fact that Dr. Chen is a 1989 alumnus of our institution.

 

 

 

 

我是迈尔斯·凯·戴维斯博士，林菲尔德大学校长。我们学校位于太平洋西北角的俄勒冈州，有165年的历史，与中国有着悠久而丰富的联系，今天我们将在这里延续这一传统。

My name is Dr. Miles K. Davis and I am president of Linfield University. We are located in the beautiful State of Oregon, in the Pacific Northwest corner of the United States. Linfield is 165 years old and has a long and rich history of connections with China – our presence here today extends upon that legacy.

每年的这个时候对美国的大学来说都是激动人心的，因为即将开始一个新的学年。我们渴望更加优秀的学术人才，并以更高地标准来关心和支持我们的学生。 对郑州西亚斯学院来说也是同样的，因为你们也将在这里开启一个充满希望和机会的新篇章。 我非常荣幸，能与你们一同迎来踏上崭新旅程的这一重要时刻。

 

This time of year marks an exciting moment for my university back in the United States, as we begin a new academic year and aspire for even greater academic excellence and an even higher standard of care and support of our students. I know this is the same for Sias University, as you start a new chapter full of promise and opportunity. It is my very deep honor to be here among you as you embark on this journey.

 

郑州西亚斯学院有着丰富的创新性、卓越性和改变生活的历史。 珍惜在西亚斯学习的机会吧，让你们未来四年的生活无愧于这所优秀的大学。

 

I understand that Sias University has a rich history of innovation, of excellence, of changing lives. Take the opportunity to embrace opportunities that arise this year at Sias, and to build your own lives worthy of this excellent university.

 

今天，我有幸与大家在此会面，我期待在未来的日子里，我们两所大学能够不断地发展合作伙伴关系，与你们中的更多人合作。

 

I had the honor of meeting with many of you today, and I look forward to working with more of you tomorrow and in the days to come as our universities advance a growing partnership.

 

再次感谢陈肖纯理事长邀请我们参加开学典礼。 对于西亚斯的未来以及进步，我们可以大胆地设想。 我们为你们的愿景喝彩，为每一个来到这里见证梦想实现的人喝彩。

 

Thank you, above all, to the honorable Dr. Chen for inviting us to join your celebration. It took a bold vision to foresee what Sias University could become. We applaud your vision, and we applaud everyone who has come here to see it fulfilled.
